Which essential question and comparative text did you chose? Explain
I chose: when, if ever is it right to break the law? I chose this because I can get pleny examples from "Antigone". I am not sure what type of examples I can get from 'Warriors Don't cry" but fy reading a few pages of it I think I can get a few.

Do you think Antigone had control over her life? Explain.Godknfjdncjdnjlsnsdjcnnnccncn
I Do not think Antigone had control over her life. She did what she wanted to which was her fate. You can't fight fate.
Describe an incident when someone you knew stood up for what they believed in
I can not remember a time when someone I knew someone that stood up for what they believed in. Even though I can't remember, I think standing up for what you believe in is very important. When you stand up for what you believe in I think you become a stronger person and you start to get a sense of who you are and how you want to live your life.

Describe an example of a dramatic irony
In Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter," when Hester goes to the governor's garden to make sure that Pearl is not taken away from her, and asks the Reverend Dimmesdale to support her position. This is an example of dramatic irony because the reader knows that Dimmesdale and Hester are partners in sin, but the characters don't.

What is your tragic flaw?
My tragic flaw is that people can make me laugh when I am mad. Of course, when you are mad you don't want to laugh, you'd rather stay mad until you get over it. Unfortunately that's not the case with me. Whenever I am mad there is always someone who will try to make me laugh and wont stop until I do laugh.

Which character can you relate to most in the story Antigone?
The character I can relate to is Ismene. The reason why I can relate to her is because I like to go by the rules. I would relate to Antigone if the brother she was going to give up her life for was alive but he's not, hes dead and I think its stupid to risk your life for a dead person.

Which is more important, family or law?
In my opinion, family is more important but obeying the law is important as well. If I was put in a predicament where my mom was about to die if I did not break the law, then I would break the law. If it was a decision such as if my mom was about to get her hair shaved off if I did not break the law then I probably would not break the law, she'd just be balled.

How are you doing with meeting deadlines?
With our I Believe essays, comes deadlines and benchmarks. On our first benchmark I did good. I turned in the first draft of my essay not complete but on time. For our second benchmark I did not do so good. I missed the benchmark which means I must turn it in tomorrow so I will have time to type and complete the final draft of my essay.

What makes your first draft good?
I have to admit, my first draft was not all that good. It stills needs a lot of work. But the best thing about my first draft is that I had a particular story to tell. Its easy to believe in something but not experience that thing that you believe in. I was in that particular dilemma. There are many positive things I believe in but have not had the chance to experience them and when writing an "I Believe" essay, you need a story to tell so I had difficulty finding something. Good thing I did.

Describe a time when you were optimistic about the future
The time when I was most optimistic about the future is the night I found out that Obama was elected president. I was at youth group and my friend got a text from his friend saying "Obama won!!!". I was so ecstatic. I did not jump around and scream and cry physically, but I did mentally. The reason why I am so optimistic about the future is because I know things are going to get a lot better in our society. I did not think that I would see an African American president and I know that unlike Bush, he cares about African Americans since he is one himself.
What have you learned (on your own) is important in life?
What I have taught myself is to keep a positive attitude even when my surroundings are negative. Although it is hard sometimes, I still try. I think that maybe if I have a positive attitude then then the people around me who have negative attitudes will want to be happy and smile.
What is the best advice you have ever recieved?
The best advice I have ever received is to not give up. That is a valuable piece of advice for not only me but most people. This is the best because whenever I do feel like giving up I just think of that and it helps me to keep going. I use it in my school work, relationships, and when I had my first cross country meet. I did not give up.

Describe the best(MOST MEMORABLE/FUNNIEST ADVERT YOU HAVE SEEN
There is one television advertisement that I think is just hilarious, the E Trade commercials. E Trade uses a baby with an older mans voice. In one of the commercials, the baby is talking and his blackberry rings and supposedly its one of his "chicks" calling him and he says something like, "Hey baby let me hit u back". He's a baby, with a blackberry and a grown man's voice calling a girl a baby when he's one himself.

What grade do you think you deserve for this quarter in English?
The grade I think I deserve in English is a B+. The reason why I think I deserve this grade is because I think I have been doing pretty good in English. Last year I always got a zero in my binder checks and reading response journals. This year I make it my priority to keep my binder and my folder organized so I can keep up. I did good on my memoir and completed most of my homework although my teacher did not receive my blog address.

Which historical figure would you most want to meet?
The historical figure I would most want to meet is Martin Luther King Jr. I am sure a lot of people have said this but he was somebody that is very powerful in my eyes. If it were not for him, African Americans may not have the same rights as we do today. He was such a powerful speaker and seemed to be so kindhearted. I know if I could meet him today, I would gain so much wisdom from him. I wish that he could be here to guide a lot of the people in this world because we all need guidance and I think he would be the perfect person.

Laearning About Myself
The thing I learned about myself is that I don't give my life the credit it deserves. I need to be more happy about my life because I've heard many stories this past month that are very sad. I am thankful that I do not have to go through some of the things that my fellow classmates have gone through. I have had some issues in my life of my own but they were not that bad. People have gone through a lot worse and I should be in that mindset whenever something unfortunate happens in my life.
Plan to do differently next quarter
What I will do differently next quarter is I will get a Writers Notebook s that I can get my full credit in English. In DMA I will try to work faster on the computers so that I can finish up all of my work. I am not all that fast on computers and I know I need to be most of the time.
How do the choices I make affect communication?
The choices I make affect my communication because some people may see how I act and what I say to certain people and that may be their first impression of me. If somebody sees me cursing someone out (most likely you won't see me doing that), they may possibly be intimidated by me or think that I am a rude person even though that person deserved to be cursed out. Basically you should watch the way you act in front of people you do not know because they may think something of you that is not true.

What did you learn about memoir writing?
Writing a memoir on an event in my life was something new to me. I never gave myself the time of the day as far as looking back on old times and seeing what I learned from those times. Starting off on writing my memoir, I thought it would be just like writing a regular story. In a way it is but I found out there is a lot more to it than a regular made up story. Its real, therefore you have to make the readers believe how real it is.
On my first draft of my memoir I over did it on quotes and useless sentences. The quotes I used were true, but boring and did not get straight to the point and the sentences weren't of high importance. The reader would have probably thought I was stalling and would soon get tired of my story. Overall, I learned not to put unnecessary things into my writing pieces whether I am writing a memoir or a report.

What Do You Need To Improove On As A Presenter
What I need to improve on as a presenter is very simple. I do not always speak as loudly as I should while presenting. This is very important for presenters to be able to do this so that they can be heard by their audience. If I do not improve on this skill I will not be able to get my point across as well as I would like and of course i always want to get my point across.

A part of my memoir i am most happy with
I am most happy with my whole memoir. The part that I am the most happy with is the part where I had to describe what happened and how I reacted to the surprise I had got when I opened the door. I am most proud of this part because I actually wrote down what happened. I didn't want to because I didn't want every one to know i was crying over something like that.

Revisions
The part of my memoir that needs revising is my conclusion. I feel that it can be stronger. I think I need to expand on how I have learned from my experience. I also want to use bigger words and get rid of any tired words I may have used.

What I want The Reader To Feel After Reading My Memoir
After reading my memoir, I want people to be able to feel like they were there watching everything I am writing about. I want them to see were I'm coming from fully and clear. I don't want them to think I am prejudice because I am not, but going some were for a year and being the only African American girl can seem tough, and I thought it would be. Them reading my memoir should teach them the lesson of giving things a chance, stepping outside of your comfort zone every now and then, and not to judge a book by it's cover.

Why Is Your Memoir Topic IMportant to You?
My topic is important to me because I went through a totally new experience. I would have never thought I'd go to a school were I was the only African American girl. I felt like I was a fish out of water to them which made me defensive and I started judging them thinking they wouldn't accept me or like me. But I learned that they were not how I thought they were and that most of them liked me. This taught me not to judge people right off the back. That is why this topic is important to me.

Flashback (My Memoir)
"Noooo!", I cried to my mother as she tried to leave me. It was my first day of kindergarten and I was not about to let her go. "MOOOM!!!" I yelled. "Its o.k. honey", she comforted me. The same way she had comforted me all my life, and I knew she wasn't going to be able to all day. "Let go of me now. I have to go to work" I screamed and yelled as I saw the back of her head float off

Describe My Room
My room is kind of simple. The walls are white, the carpet is tan. But, I do have a purple frilly carpet covering up part of my floor. My curtains are pink and orange, matching my bead spread which is pink, purple, and orange. I love reading Seventeen, Vogue, W, and Cosmogirl magazines so what I do is rip pictures out from the magazines whether its a fashion ad or writing, and hang them up on my wall and closet door. I also have a mirror on my wall so I can look at myself all the time and two pictures of pink flowers. By my bed, I have a black dresser that matches my black table and the head board. On my table I have a pile of magazines and some books...

Scariest Moment
I cant really think of one of my scariest moments but I can think of something that freaked me out. One night I was over my grandmas house alone. I decided to go in the kitchen to grab a snack because I was hungry. As I was closing the refrigerator, the lights turned off by itself. I remember running into the bedroom so fast.
I'm the type of person that gets freaked out very easily. I don't particularly believe in ghosts but when that happened that was probably the first thing that popped up in my head. On top of that happening, I was home alone with no one to go and run to. I just hope that never happens to me ever again!

Lets Do It Again :)
There are many things in my life that I would like to do over again. Some significant, some not so significant. What I would like to do all over again may seem insignificant and small to some, but to me it really meant a lot to me. Not at the time, but looking back on it brings a smile to my face. The thing I would love to do all over again is go to Disneyland with my mom and dad.
When I was 12 my mom, my dad, and I went to Disneyland for Christmas. I was excited because my brother and sister went to Texas to visit our papa. It was just me and my parents, exactly how I wanted it to be. Since my mom and dad split, that was probably the last time that we all did something fun and exciting together as a family. I had so much fun. It made me feel special because I had all my parents attention and it was about what i wanted to do, and not my sister or annoying brother. Its funny because at this moment i just learned a lesson. To cherish the good times because you don't know when or if they can ever be replayed.

Impactful person
There are not very people in my life who i can say has influenced me, some but not a lot. But one person who has influence me quite a bit is bit is my older sister. I think of her as a positive role model towards my life. She has a goal and i can see her working her best to achieve it. I really look up to her in many ways.
The reason why i look up to her is because she has goals and she completes each step to get to her goal without giving up. I as well have goals in my life but to see someone who has similar goals as mine doing there best to reach them makes me want to reach my goals even more. She also attends a junior college. Previously before going to the junior college, she went to California College of the Arts, which isn't a junior college. She saw that it was a bit to much for her at the moment and decided to drop out to go to the junior college. Seeing this made me realize that its okay to stoop down to something lower sometimes if thats what is best for you so that you can get to the top later on.
